PLEASE Update Bridge Photo Downloader to support Sony A7R IV files!

Bridge and ACR have supported A7R IV files for months now.  Why doesn't the photo downloader?  It doesn't display thumbnails and will not convert the files to .dgn on import.  Which makes it useless.  Yes, I can open files in ACR and save them as .dgn, but even with 10 at a time, converting hundreds of files is a major time waster.

I reported this problem last year.  I got a quick response from someone at Adobe saying they're working on it.  Shortly thereafter, my post just disappeared.  ???

Hi Scott, glad to hear that someone else also has this problem - and it's insane that Adobe hasn't provided a fix for this yet, since the A7r IV is such a popular camera this days. I have a list in my recent post about this, and what I've tried. I hope that Adobe reads our complaints and provide us with a fix. 

'Cause I reckon you still got issues with this? You haven't found a workaround to make the built in conversion work?

I've struggled with the built in DNG conversion when using Bridge Photo Downloader for the last four months. Ever since I bought my Sony A7r IV - I've kept Photoshop, Bridge and Adobe DNG Converter up-to-date without any success of using this feature. 

I've tried this on two of my PCs - both running the latest Windows 10 updates, drivers, firmwares and so on. I've also tried installing the "Sony A7r IV Drivers" for thumbnail preview in windows. That didn't help either. 

I am a bridge fan - not interested in using Lightroom for my image selection and process. So using the Adobe DNG Converter is a bit of a hassle, and the built in conversion is such a good feature to use. I have no problems when using my Hasselblad CFV, Sony RX100 or Nikon D3x raw files and the built in DNG Conversion with Photo Downloader. 

If anyone has any advice regarding this - or what I could try, I'd be more then happy to give it a go!

This is what I've tried so far: 

  • Kept Photoshop, Bridge and DNG Converter up-to-date. 
  • Latest Windows 10 updates, drivers and firmwares. 
  • Tried on two PCs. 
  • Re-installed Photoshop + Bridge on one of the PCs. 
  • Used the built in card-reader for importing. 
  • Used an external USB3 "Sandisk" card-reader. 
  • Tried using Adobe DNG Converter - which is successfully converting the raw files. 
  • Latest firmware in my Sony A7r IV.
  • Tried other RAW-formats (specified above in the text).
  • Installed Sony A7r IV drivers for Windows 10. 
  • Photoshop manages to open the raw-files just fine, no errors. 

This is what I'm currently running as of 4th of April 2020: 
  • Windows 10 - 1909 v. 18363.720
  • Adobe Photoshop Version: 21.1.1 20200312.r.121 2020/03/12: c839971b587  x64
  • Adobe Bridge 10.0.3.138
  • Adobe DNG Converter 12.1.0.351

Hi, Martin.

The only thing I've been able to do is select a few files in Bridge (I usually do 10) and open them in Camera Raw.  Then click "Save Image..."  Under Format, select "Digital Negative."  I save them in the same folder, then delete the .ARW files after they are saved as .dng.

I hope Adobe fixes this soon.  Converting a few hundred files 10 at a time takes a looooong time.

Hey Scott,

You should definitely have a look at "Adobe DNG Converter" and use that meanwhile we wait for a fix from Adobe. Your current workflow is nothing I recommend, opening up in Camera Raw just to save as DNG doesn't sound like much fun. 

I download the raw-files via bridge and convert all the raw-files to DNG with this application:

Over a year has passed, Adobe doesn't seem to wanna fix this. How could we possible push this matter? Is there another way to complain about Adobes shitty way of handling their products when we, the users, pay at a premium for a working solution - which it obviously doesn't. Anyone has any ideas on how we could pursue this matter together?
