Camera Raw 12.3: Crop Tool is sticky and jerky and can't select edge to edge in one pass

The Crop Tool in camera raw 12.3 is very jerky/sticky when trying to crop. Issue on both mac 10.14 and windows 10 2004 with photoshop 21.2

Not only that but you can't select edge-to-edge in one pass, because the crop tool wants to rotate the image unless you start inside the image. It requires one pass to select and another to resize the selection. PITA and poor design.

I agree. It may be useful in a case where you edit 3-4 photos but when you have 300 of them it's a pain in the a...
Today i've lost an hour just to open in PS and crop lots of photos.

Can you explain what you mean by "edge-to-edge"?  The crop tool starts out as already selecting the entire image, edge to edge.

If I want to crop with a custom ratio and leave top to bottom or side to side as-is.

See the attached image- why can't I simply drag the crop tool across the area shown with the dotted line? One drag and I'm done.

But that doesn't work. Starting a drag from outside the image area invokes the rotate function, and moving the sides keeps the aspect ratio.

At a minimum, I have to unlock the aspect ratio and then adjust both sides individually. Maybe add the shift key modifier to override both locked aspect and rotation (let's revisit the whole shift key transform thing!) Start outside the image area and shift-drag to select. Simple and user-friendly :)

This is also an issue I have had since Camera Raw was updated.  The align tool and crop tool have been so slow to respond as to make them almost ineffective.  I have not had this issue with previous versions of Camera Raw nor with any of other tools - so assume it is not an issue with my computer.

Same problem here...have found it easier to process entire image in Camera Raw and convert to JPEG...then crop on Photoshop.

the crop tool in ACR is useless - you have to open your image in Photoshop and crop it there now.  This is a step backward.

Have the same issue on both Win 7 machine and Win 10. Was able to get some improvement on the Win 10 machine by checking the box "Use Software Rendering" located under the Edit - Advanced. Didn't help the 7 machine at all.

This the worst update I've seen until now. It was easy to work with the old UI, now we are being forced to learn from scratch how to find tools, and this make our work slow and less productive. Imagine you coloring 200+ photos and being forced to manually crop 16:9 with a slow tool and bugged, you also have to select the ratio in each photo because it resets after you choose another photo and you have to manually set again.

If you guys want to make the "design/ui" better, do it but dont change the tools locations and other things that was making our work easy and productive. I had to rollback to previous version and in my point of view, this is not a solution. (I've see people saying they fixed and solved the problem like this, but we know this isn't fixed, the new update are still there, bugged, with problems and shouldn't be public until they really fix it.

I agree with you Johnny, and Mr Cattoir, Lorraine, Fred, Mike, Bruce, Dawid, both Davids and Jea.

Still no improvement to the crop tool's slowness and jerkiness in the 12.4 camera raw update.

Adding to this thread, why can't a draw my own crop? Ridiculous this has been removed.

Agree totally...now have to use Lightroom to process NEF files. Crop tool in ACR is unusable, IMO.

Bruce, that may well be what they would like us all to do...

I mentioned the 'Broken' Crop tool in ACR to my Adobe representative again and this time she said she would forward it to the folks in Lightroom.  Is LR running the show in ACR?  If so can someone maybe post a link to this forum for the LR folks to see all of the comments about this issue ?   At this point anyone at Adobe who can fix this will make me [and others] very happy.
