Lightroom Classic + Big Sur OS11.1 : Starts okay, then slows to unusable

LRC 10.1 and 10.0 (I rolled back as a potential solution, but no avail).

I've upgraded to Big Sur recently and have found that LRC runs okay for a few minutes but then starts to slow down to the point of being unusable (I'm laying out a photo big which is smaller than many others and has lower res images too, it should be lightning fast!). Closing the app then restarting it allows another minute of two of work each time, but it's infuriating at best.

The LRC system data follows (minus a couple of lines for privacy on a public forum).  The machine is a Late 2015 iMac, 3.2Ghz i5, with 24GB.  One thing that stands out to me (as a non-techie) is that the LRC data states the Operating System as OS10, when it's actually running OS11.1

Please help! Thanks.

Do you see the same result with GPU Off in Preferences>Performance?

Are you seeing the slowdown in Develop only or in other places as well (such as working in Library for 20 minutes straight?)

Hi Rikk,

I should have said that turning GPU off was the first thing I tried.

The only thing I've been working on recently is a book layout in BOOK. I was about halfway through prior to the Big Sur upgrade and it had been fine. Having upgraded and come back to it after the holidays, it's now performing as described.  The book is smaller than others previously created and there's nothing special (or big) about the images either.  However, after a few minutes of use, just dragging an image from one place to another is painful.

Did the 10.1 update released in December provide any relief? The data above says you are using 10.0 still.

No - I was already on 10.1 and have gone back to 10.0 to see if that helped. No difference between them.

If you watch Activity Monitor what happens to RAM usage as you work. Does it stay fairly stable or go up as you work and the slowness starts?

Looking at that suggest It's behaving oddly.  It ran much of the weekend in a fairly stable, if sluggish, way typically at 2.4GB, but eventually started to slow right up and was some way north of 3GB. So a quick restart and it's under 1GB, but steadily creeping up and slowing down even when at a little over 1GB - nowhere near what it was previously, but still slower!

Okay - thanks for looking into it. I'll keep my fingers crossed for an update soon! In the meantime.
