Lightroom Classic: panasonic dmc tz70 automatic lens correction not applied

Previously lightroom classic applied automatically the lens profile correction to my RW2 format files from my panasonic dmc tz70. After updating to 10.2  (probably 10.1 as well) I get the message "Unable to locate a matching profile automatically". However sometimes (apparently randomly) the built in profile is applied. Then I go back to an image and the profile is NOT applied!

Can someone explain what is going on and how to fix it please?

Someone else reported very similar symptoms with a different camera:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic/no-support-for-fujifilm-x-t2-lenses/m-p/11926540#M227511

This smells like a problem with LR 10.2.  More troubleshooting steps:

1. Try resetting LR's preferences:
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

2. Roll back to LR 10.1.1:

Hi John,

resetting preferences seems to have worked. Thanks so much for your help.

If it happens again I'll reset prefs straight away. I'll have to work out what my preferences were now! Should have checked first. Oops!

Upload a sample problem image to Dropbox or similar and post the sharing link here.  We can see if this happens on other installations of LR 10.2 or is particular to yours.

Hi John,

Thanks for your response. I don't have dropbox so i've put an image in google photos. The link is:

I hope it works!

When I click Download in Google Photos, it downloads a .bmp file, not a .rw2 raw file.  (In general, photo-sharing sites alter photos when you upload them.)

Can you upload it to Google Drive instead of Google Photos?  Alternatively, use the free Dropbox Transfer service? Those will let us download the original file, unmodified.

I loaded that .rw2 into my LR 10.2 and it applied the built-in profile successfully:

When this happens again, please post a screenshot of the error message and Lens Corrections panel -- that could show more clues.

Thanks John,

i'm not surprised!

I uploaded 11 photos yesterday and when I went into Develop the adjustments had been applied! (Clicking in the little "i" gave the correct camera model DMC-TZ70.) I then did some editing in Develop and when I clicked on a different image the error message appeared! Weird. Anyway I have checked on another camera and it works fine (Nikon D5200)

1. I have noticed that all my historical TZ70 images are now not adjusted but they were before. (The Nikons are fine and I can apply corrections to images that were not previously corrected and the lenses identified are correct (Nikon and Sigma)

2 I attach a screen shot of the error message I get

3. I don't know if it's relevant but when I'm importing I have the Develop settings set to "Camera Settings" but I don't know if this has always been the case.

Best of luck!

The screenshot shows Enable Profile Corrections checked -- that's suspicious.  How did it get checked?

Can you post a screenshots of

- the Preferences > Presets window

- the entire History panel of that photo

IT was probably me that checked the box after I had imported the file. Probably I wanted to check if it made any difference. I have imported another image and the box is unchecked as expected.

Screenshot of Preferences > Presets window

2. History panel of that photo
3 I wondered if there is a file with the inbuilt lens profile in Lightroom that has been corrupted or is it in the camera and the transfer isn't working properly? As it worked for you I assume my Lightroom is not reading something correctly? Anyway thanks for spending time in this it is quite frustrating!

Hi John,

I don't know if this helps but I opened the image in Photoshop21 and in CameraRaw it said the profile was applied!

"I wondered if there is a file with the inbuilt lens profile in Lightroom that has been corrupted or is it in the camera"

The cameras embed the built-in lens profile in the raw file, and LR and Camera Raw read it from there.
