Lightroom Classic: rearranging photos after editing in Photoshop

Lightroom automatically rearranges the pictures after they are edited and saved through photoshop, does anyone know how to prevent that from happening?

Are you perhaps doing this from within a smart collection? Smart collections do not support stacks.

Ohh yes, I’m using a smart collection, it’s a big folder, and everyday I shoot at the studio I create a new collection to sort things out

rearranged as in they are not stacked with the original (even tho the ''stack with original'' checkbox over edit - preferences is checked)

This appears to be an expansion of a problem that's existed for years. I've found a work-a-round but it would be nice if Adobe could fix it.

  1. give the images a keyword before sending to Photoshop
  2. upon returning to Lightroom, click on the keyword arrow on the right side of the keyword
  3. this almost always works for me but sadly, sometimes Lightroom needs a restart before step 2 though since V9.4, that is now rare.
