Lightroom: Slideshow problems

I have LR 2015.3 running on both a Mac-Pro (10.10.5) and a MBP(10.9.5). Since installing 6.3 on the MBP I have very clunky transitions, or no transitions at all, ghost images from previous slides, ken burns effects not working smoothly. On the Mac Pro I only get a black screen when previewing or playing the slideshow.I tried replacing the video toolkit (though I did not get the mentioned 'sequencer defunct' error message, and then my catalog wouldn't even open (due to an unexpected problem)thanks for any help.is there any way I can downgrade to 6.1?

Hi,

We have updated and fixed a lot around Slideshow in Lightroom 6.8/2015.8.

Could you update and give it a try?

Thanks,

Does a Mac come with Quicktime installed? It seems to be necessary on 2 of my 3 Windows machines in order to get LR slideshow transitions etc working properly.

OK, I wasn't sure about that. But since no-one on either of the LR forums seems to have any idea why Quicktime is necessary for my two Windows machines to run LRs slideshow, I doubt that you are going to get much help on your problem.

I spent a week troubleshooting mine (including trying different graphics cards), before I thought of trying Quicktime as a last resort, and was very surprised when it worked. I knew Quicktime was necessary for running some videos in LR, but had never heard anything about it being necessary for slideshows. The strangest thing is that Quicktime is not necessary for my 3rd computer to run LR slideshows properly.

I've given up and bought ProShow Gold, which runs fine on all 3 computers. It doesn't do color management (that costs another 100 or so dollars) but is in a different league to LR in producing slideshows.

I think we have to realise that LR is a Jack-of-all-Trades program; it does lots of different things, but none of them very well. Presumably LRs software talent is spread very thinly over the program's range of modules, plugins, and the latest 'mobile fads'.

The strange thing in all this is that it used to work fine in 5.x, but none of the 6.x versions seems to provide the same stability. I had a presentation yesterday and it ran fine on my latest 5.x install, smooth transitions inclusive. They must have messed up including additional options. That's a very sorry thing. I enjoy making my presentations from within LR, because that gives you the benefit of last minute adaptations in both your selections and in your developing.
