Lightroom: Smugmug Publish Errors in 3.4

When attempting to publish to Smugmug today, I encountered the following error: "An internal error has occurred: ?:0: attempt to index a nil value". Any idea how to fix that?

If the error you're seeing is actually "attempt to index field "_dataChanges" (a nil value)", this is something we tried to fix in 3.4 but a few cases seem to be sneaking through. If you can identify a specific image it's choking on, here are a couple things to try to set the record straight for that image.

- If the image has never been edited, apply a custom preset then reset the image.

- If the image has been edited, sync the metadata changes from the original.

Hi Scott, what product are you trying to publish from?

Can you give us a little more detail about what action is provoking the error message? What steps lead up to it?

I am having the same issue with Smugmug using LR 3.4.1. It worked fine a couple days ago, today it doesn't work. Will post here to keep from creating a flood of posts.

In my case I am running LR 3.4.1. I am publishing to a smugmug account. I published a new collection to the same account a few days ago and everything worked.

Today I create the collection, add photos to it, and then press publish. LR works away for a few minutes and then produces the nil value message listed above. Deleting the collection and starting over doesn't solve it.

Any help?

Error Publishing Collection bug is back. (From http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/896/cpsid_89...)

It just seems every fix for this issue says "Update to 3.4", but I am already on 3.4!

I'm having this problem too using 3.4.1, 64-bit. In this case, I did the following (probably much more detail than needed):

1) Import (just one) Canon RAW file from the card.
2) Apply basic corrections (Auto Tone, WB, Vibrance, Clarity, Sharpening)
3) Add Keywording, stars, captions
4) Drag it over to publish and hit the publish button (for the one file).
5) It failed with the same message as the first post: "An internal error has occurred: ?:0: attempt to index a nil value."

However, if I try to publish again eventually it goes through. Pretty annoying though. My upload speed is not the greatest, so most of the time I rely on it to go unattended... Coming back to the machine and finding the error message is most disappointing.

Past experiments seem to indicate that it fails on the first image export. If it gets past the first one, it seems to be OK.

I am having the same problem described by others here. I keep publishing and it works a little further, but as Curtis said, this is really annoying when you leave and come back. In my case I am trying to upload ~300 photos.

One theory I have is that my ISP (Rogers in Canada) introduces a large delay before establishing the upload connection which might be affecting Lightroom and the upload. If I run the connection tests at www.speedtest.net the download works fine though often the upload portion of the test delays for several seconds before connecting.

Might this have an impact with Lightroom? It doesn't impact Smugmug's uploader significantly. And if the upload connection handling by my ISP is the problem, is there anything that Lightroom can do differently to make it more reliable? Surely the software shouldn't error out! (at least give a better error message.)

There is a new version of the publisher at SmugMug: http://help.smugmug.com/customer/port...

I'm getting an error when publishing a collection using the SmugMug plug-in, "Can't update this collection. An internal error has occurred: ?:0: attempt to index field 'exportSettings' (a nil value)" I'm running Lightroom 4 on a Windows 7 machine with 8 GB RAM. It seems to occur when Lightroom gets to an .mts video file in the collection.

has anyone else seen this?

Thanks!

I have had a lot of uploading problems cleared up when I upgraded to faster DSL (from 1.5Mbps to 20).
