Photoshop Elements: Can I migrate from Photoshop Elements to Lightroom?

I've been using Photoshop Elements Organizer to tag my images, create collections, and otherwise coordinate my files. But now I am upgrading to Lightroom. Will I loose all of my work, or can it be transfered over?

Within certain version restrictions, you can convert your Photoshop Elements catalog into a Lightroom catalog. If you have have been running Photoshop Elements Organizer and installed Lightroom on the same computer, under the File menu of Lightroom you should have "Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog". If you do not see this command, follow the troubleshooting guide cpsid_85517.

I'm running Photoshop Elements v.8 (20090917.r.608822). I have this problem, that the Downloader creates duplicate files every time I try to get just new files. Per anchita dogra's rec above the box for "Copy New Files Only" is checked, but I still get ALL the photos on the card, including the ones that Elements previously downloaded. This is very annoying. Is there a fix?
Incidentally I'm considering upgrading to Lightroom 3, but I would not want to drop $300 on a program that might also have such a basic flaw.

Hi Kevin, do you have a another topic link for your issue with "Copy New Files Only"? I didn't see any other threads. I'm wondering if there's anything special about the file naming or dates of the files you're importing that might cause this problem.

You can check out Lightroom free for 30 days to try it out for yourself. It's also on sale ($100 off) until Jan 3rd.

Eight years ago, the official stance of Adobe was that you could migrate your photoshop elements catalog to Lightroom.  Is that still true today?
