Lightroom Mobile: how to find original raw files in the cloud

I want to downgrade my data plan, since I don't really need the 1TB. But I need to clean up first.

How can I filter for original raw files and distinguish the from smart previews? I'm sure there are a few in the cloud that still has to be replaced by smart previews, but how to find them?

A button like "replace all selected photos that are stored on your hard drive with smart previews in the cloud" would be nice, but that's not there.

There is no filter. The only way is by using Lr “cloudy” on desktop.

Hallo Donna Wetter, are you using only LR Cloud? If yes, then you have only originals in the cloud.

I think there could be a misunderstanding here. If you use Lightroom Mobile (or Lightroom desktop) to import images, then the original is uploaded to the cloud. You can have smart previews on your device to save space, but the cloud will still contain original images. The only app that syncs smart previews to the cloud is Lightroom Classic.

Hallo Donna Wetter, when you are importing your pictures into LR Classic and sync it via Collections to cloud, then you have all Originals locally and in your local backup. I guess you have to stop syncing in LR Classic and upload new with smart previews only. Ok, I understand your question that you want to do that selectively and save time.

But obviously I also import stuff with the mobile app, and those originals seem to remain, even after moving them in LR classic. So seems the answer is, I can't.

Wait, There is perhaps a way to find out. When you load Originals via mobile devices using LR Cloud, then the Originals are synced back to LR Classic in an own folder called LR Mobile or similar. Do you see this folder in LR Classic?

Thing is: if you sync them back from the Classic, you should have deleted them from the cloud FIRST, otherwise, servers will just take the raws and don’t replace them with smart previews, DESPITE having them synced down from Classic.

It should be tested, but I even feel you need to wait at least a couple of minutes or hours before the servers assimilate those images as deleted and smart previews are generated.
and again, THERE IS NO WAY OF KNOWING because Adobe REFUSES to integrate that effing filter!

Not sure why this is so difficult. Using Lightroom for desktop, there IS a filter which allows the user to find either all images which are "Synced and Backed Up" (which are the originals) and those images which are "Synced from Lightroom Classic" (which will be the smart previews). Accessed via the Filter Bar>Sync Status.
To replace the originals in the cloud, make sure that sync in both Lightroom and Lightroom Classic is up to date. Then in Lightroom desktop filter on Synced and Backed Up, create an album and put all those originals in it. Then in Classic, find the corresponding collection and unsync it, then select all the images in that collection, click on the All Synced Photographs, right-click on any one off the selected images and click on "Remove from All Synced Photogrpahs". That will delete all those originals from the cloud - care: that will remove those images from any other album or synced collection that they are in - then when the syncing of that activity has stabilised simply re-enable sync for that special collection created earlier. That will upload smart previews of those images.

Thank you very much Jim!
Am using the LR Cloud and LR Classic the other way round (with help from Victoria Bamton) and sync only from LR Cloud to LR Classic as a backup and change metadata I cannot change in LR Cloud.
You mean this filter , right ?

Yes, that's the one.
