Elements: Face recognition no longer prompting

Lost my prompt for people recognition when it suggested a name or names.. Now I have to manually fill in full name for each person (100 per cent of the time). When I do that it works fine. I believe that I just accidentally hit a key that disabled that function. Photo shop Elements 9.

I renamed breezesession.dat, and it still doesn't work. Also, I would have expected a new file to get generated, but that didn't happen.
When I click the icon to start people finder it hourglasses for 30 seconds then I get this message:

Did you delete more than just the Breezesession.dat file? Did you delete any of the other Breeze files? This can happen if you do that, these files will not be rebuilt. If you did, you basically have to recreate your catalog.

I have experienced the problem described in this thread - the suggested solution fixed the problem initially. However, the problem have recurred and then the solution did not solve the problem any longer. I noticed that no new Breezesession.dat file was created when renaming that file (as suggested above), nor was a new Breezesession-folder created when renaming that folder (as suggested by others).

Hoping to solve this problem I have created a new catalog, but the problem remains. In the new folder (ie the new catalog-folder) there is no BreezeData-folder and thereby I am not able to retry the suggested solution on the new catalog (since there is no BreezeData.dat file to rename...).

I have discovered something very strange. Recognition works fine on photos in my catalog that are dated up until March 2012 - I can bring up older photos and accept or reject selections just like before. When I display newer photos, nothing happens.
When tag older photos, it creates corresponding entries in breezedata.

I have the same problem as Peter Akersten. I managed to change the file name last year, but now there is no breezesession.dat file to change. Any solutions please?

If the breezesession.dat file is not being recreated (the reason we delete it), there is something else preventing this from working. Please test People Recognition in a new user account with a new catalog. Let us know if this works so we can decide how to proceed.

Brett,
I have created a new user account in Windows and then created a new catalog; unfortunately the problem with face recognition remains.

I want to ask a question about how you are going about doing this, as I had to test a similar issue and found a subtle thing.

You went into the new user account, created a new catalog, and imported your images. Then you started the facial recognition process and identified several people. And then you finished the recognition, imported some more photos and tried to identify these and the names you had already used before did not show up as suggestions?

Here's what I found when I tested: if you simply use the Plus (+) button at the top of the Keyword Tags panel and create keywords (as people's names, and even place them in the People Category), these will not show up as suggestions when you try to use facial recognition. The only names that will appear as suggestions are those that were created through the people recognition process.

Can you verify this is how they names you are trying to get to appear as a suggestion were created?

I have PSE 10 and have been trying to tag faces and notice that when I start to type in a name it doesn't autofill with the names of my main family - I believe that I probably did create these tags using the Plus button. Names that have been created since by typing a new name under the photo in people recognition are always automatically suggested.
How can I make our names autofill if they were originally created using the Plus?

You basically have to create those tags again during the Face Recognition process.

That's a pain but thank you for the confirmation.

Have you performed any of the steps listed above?

is there a maximum of faces in the organiser? if so what to do to remove unwanted faces?

There are real limits and there are practical limits. There is no real limit to the number of faces you can tag. But there is the practical limit to the number of faces your computer can handle. Each time you add a tag, that is another piece of information that must be tracked, taking up memory. Eventually, you run out of memory.

There is a real limit I have met. In my database are more than 55000 photo's .The breeze files reached already 99999 and no more photo's could be handled. It was not possible to add faces to a photograph. I remove some 1k breeze files (the ones I think were coupled to photo's without faces) and now I can tag faces again.

Why does Elements not remove breeze files without faces?

The Breeze file represents that that image has been checked for faces. There is still a Breeze file for images without faces to say that the image has no faces.

So the maximum of photo's in the organiser is 99999? Is that right?

Not that I know of. There shouldn't be an actual limit to the number of images that the Organizer can manage (again, the machine has a practical limit). But perhaps there is a hard stop for 100,000 files per folder (with Windows? with Breeze?). I'll check with the engineers to see if anything is known.

I got the same problem with my PSE9 (I am on Windows 7 Home Premium) , but there is no BreezeData, only BreezeRecognition, breezepreprocess and BreezeDB. What can I do?

problem is partly solved, first I removed (renamed) some of the breeze.xml files. than i reorganised my database. also do it when the machine says that it is not nessesary.

There is only 1 xml file: breeze_preprocess_config. How could you rename some of the breeze.xml files?
Which database did you reorganize? I'm on WIN7 (64) and so far I know, you needn't to reorganize databases.

in the directory (name of the elements database)/breezedata are an amoount of breeze-(number 0 till 99999).xml files . i renamed some of the smallest
then i reorganise the database (even if the program says there are no mistakes or fouls. that can last many minutes.
i presume that the maximum amount of faces will be 100.000 so you can help yourself by removing some unimportant faces.

fons simons contributed a post that helps me to better understand why I am having a problem. I just have too many faces (1000's) of large group photos.

The problem is solved thanks to a helpfull assistant, who gave me a hint to another forum ( forums.adobe.com), where I found the solution.
