Photoshop Elements 2020 camera raw

Photoshop elements 2020 was just released today 10_3_2019 and only ships with camera raw 11.3 when the latest camera raw version is 11.4.1

Really, what's up with that?

Just to make things more silly adobe just updated photoshop elements 2018 to camera raw 11.4 on the same day as photoshop elements 2020 was released. So now we have an older pse version with a more up to date camera raw plugin 11.4 than a just released brand new pse 2020 with acr 11.3 . And still neither one is up to date as far as camera raw which as of this posting is 11.4.1.

Now with the recently released photoshop elements 2021 adobe included camera raw 12.3 which was already superseded by camera raw 12.4 at pse 2021s' release .

Now we have camera raw 13.0 with still no photoshop elements 2021 update.

Adobe can check their records but i believe photoshop elements 2020 got one camera raw update and that was within the first month of release.

Why can't photoshop elements users get timely camera raw updates?

However, as noted elsewhere, Adobe Camera Raw 12 when used with Elements has reduced features compared to ACR 11 and 10 (e.g. you can't save Camera Raw defaults), so upgrading isn't necessarily a good idea. Adobe seem to be removing features from Elements – I assume to encourage you to buy more expensive Adobe products.

As of now, ACR 13 won't work with Elements 2021 (at least not with the Mac version).

Camera Raw 13.0 is available for Elements 2021. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/release-note/update.html

Yes, Nidhi.

However, if you look at the various questions about ACR13 for Elements in this feedback forum or the user to user forum, you will see that the changes in this ACR13 version are not explained at all in the help file.

- the main issue for @Peter Coxhead is the disparition of the ability to save a settings as 'default'

- most users will be lost with the new UI, and especially with the crop tool (same complaints as the full ACR13 version in the present forum)

So, Elements users really need more explanations, help and feedback from the ACR team as well.

Only ACR 13.0 works with Elements; ACR 13.0.2, for example, doesn't.

As noted above, ACR 12 and ACR 13 have fewer facilities for Elements users than ACR 11.

If you allow Elements to update, as of now it will install ACR 13.0 + newer camera profiles. Then you can follow the instructions at

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/camera-raw-update-not-available.html

to go back to ACR 11.4.1 if you need the facilities that were removed. I can't see any disadvantages of this earlier version of ACR for Elements users, but of course it may cease working at some time in the future with further updates to Elements.
