Photoshop Elements: Can't covert Raw (16 bits/channel) to JPEG

I have PhotoShop Elements 7... recently the I can no longer convert Raw files (.CR2) to JPEG. I can open Raw files in PES7 and the raw file editing widow comes up. All changes are saved to a .xmp and everything seems to operate normally as far as that goes. I have not made any changes, updates, or so on as far as I know, recently. The program will no longer let me convert into a JPEG whether I attempt to via 'save as' (changing the format that way) or 'process multiple files' option. Note: when I go to 'process multiple files' window it does give me the option to convert. However when I click to proceed the 'save as' window pops up and wants me to save as a copy (.PSD or other internal photoshop format). any help?

You probably have camera raw set to open files in 16 bits/channel.
(elements won't save jpegs when the files are 16 bis/channel, they need to be converted 8 bits/channel. Image>Mode>8 bits/channel)

Open a camera raw file and in the camera raw dialog select 8 bits/channel
(at the bottom middle of the camera raw dialog) then press done.

You should be able to use process multiple files now and whenever you open a camera raw file into elements, if your unable to save as a jpeg, go to to Image>Mode and make sure the image is 8 bits/channel.

I am using Elements 8 and have this same problem, if I edit a photo in Lightroom 4 it won't let me save it as a jpg, even if I've saved it already as a tiff file.
