Usually, when tools start misbehaving, this is due to issues with the preference files that store tools, and other, settings.

To recreate this settings, resetting everything to default, simply hold down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys (Command+Option+Shift on Mac) when launching the Editor. If you get the timing right (you have to be kinda fast), you will be prompted to delete the settings file. Do this and see if the Smart Brush starts behaving correctly again.

I've got an iMac. I use PhotoShop Elements 9. I can no longer erase portions of my smart brushes like I could before. Do you have any solutions? I tried (Command+Option+Shift), reset the settings file and nothing seems to have change. My project bin position has changed too. I had it quite small in the bottom left corner. Now it is across the bottom length of the window.
