Converting layer vector mask to regular path

I'm in Adobe Photoshop Version, 22.4.2 20210602.r.242, windows 10.

I have vector mask linked to a pixel layer (or a group, it's the same..).

This mask is made with a path that is not (yet) saved in the paths panel (for example, you can create one, attach it to the layer and then delete the path from the paths panel).

When I select the vector mask, the path is shown in the paths panel, italicized (like a working path).

When I drag the path to the "new path" icon, the path isn't saved as regular path.  Nothing happens.

Even when I open the flyout menu and choose "save path", the path isn't saved. Nothing happens.

This used to work in Adobe Photoshop Version 20.0.10.

Why is it broken now??

Why is it broken now??

Well, it seems that about the time the »unconnected path points«-bug was fixed a new bug was introduced that made it impossible to duplicate Vector Masks to regular Paths.

Though I am unsure if it applies here because

When I select the vector mask, the path is shown in the paths panel, italicized (like a working path).

seems unreproducible for me – Vector Masks’ names are not italic in the Paths Panel for me.

Please post screenshots including ALL pertinent Panels.

Here is the screenshot, with both layers and paths panels.
"Path 1" is a classic path, the italicized "Layer 1 Vector Mask" is the path attached as vector mask to Layer 1.
I can duplicate Path 1 but not  save "Layer 1 Vector Mask".
I hope this clarifies.

Strange, here Vector Mask are not italized.

Anyway, the bug I mentioned makes it so that double-clicking the Vector Mask in the Paths Panel or dragging it on the new Path-button registers in the History (see screenshot) but fails to produce the new Path.

Thank you for taking the time to check this.

So, apart from the italic font, you confirm that the problem is there, right?

Unbelievable, they keep breaking stuff that used to work..

Yeah, there is a bug … check the History Panel – does the step register there while failing to produce the actual path?

Work-arounds I see so far:

• Copy the subPathItems and paste them into a new Path

• Image > Duplicate, then drag the Vector Mask path to the original image and close the duplicate

I don’t see the problem so much in things getting broken, I see the problem in broken things not getting fixed (in a timely fashion) …

The bug with the Pen Tool creating unconnected PathPoints (unless a Work Path existed) was fixed, if I remember correctly, within two dot-releases and a Work-Around existed, so it wasn’t worth getting terribly exited about it as far as I am concerned.

Other issues have persisted for years – those are the ones I consider irksome.

But, hey, the Illustrator team let one particular known bug go unfixed for more than a decade …

Having the same problem in the latest version of Photoshop. Don't understand why these basic functions keep breaking! I keep having to revert to older versions of Photoshop.

Working in a company with over 30 people using Photoshop and we have to keep telling everyone to never update because Adobe keeps breaking their own products....

It looks like it's been fixed in the last update (22.5).
