Photoshop 22: Performance issues - lag when using any filter or image adjustment

After updating to Photoshop 2021 there is a huge lag when I use any filter or image adjustment.

Animated zoom is no longer working.

Seems like a performance issue with in Photoshop.

I will be uninstalling the 2021 update and rolling back.

Next time instead of gimmicky filter updates how about just a stable update.

Ever other update has done nothing but cause problems and slow down my work!

Hi,

We're happy to announce the release of Photoshop 22.4 which should include the fix for this issue. To update Photoshop to the latest version, you can check: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

For information on other issues fixed with this update, please check: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/fixed-issues.html

Not sure if this is relating to the filter part or the image adjustments part but the curves adjustment layer handle lag is still very apparent.

The difference between 21.0.3 and anything after is night and day on any reasonably large, heavily layered file.

@Nikunj_Muglani Unfortunately, 22.4 introduced scrubby zoom lag, which is even more disrupting for someone who needs to work fast.

What OS/version?

The graphics card requirements for Photoshop 22 have increased - so you may need to update your driver or your physical card.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

This was the exact problem I was having. I rolled back to the previous version where everything worked fine.

I won't update until there is a patch of some kind.

Have two machines, both struggle with this version (though it's only marginally worse than it's been since 21.0.3)... Don't feel like they should struggle... Adjustment layer controls are the worst. Ton of lag when you've got a few stacked on anything like a large doc.

Main one:
OS: Windows 10 pro  Ver.2004

CPU : i9 9900K

RAM : 64GB

GFX: NVidia Quadro RTX 4000 with recent but not latest QNF driver (latest has buggy control panel)

Secondary:

OS: Windows 10 pro  Ver.2004

CPU : i7 6700K

RAM : 32GB

GFX: NVidia GeForce GTX 1080 with latest Studio Driver

I agree your system shouldn't be struggling. It's got to be a bug within PS.

I run high-end 3D software without an issue and no other adobe app has been lagging after updating.

After updating Photoshop CC 22, It is hard to work with adjustment tool ( level, curve, color balance etc....) because of lot of lag and delay. The slide adjustment is stuttering and the adjustment response speed is also very slow.

OS:  windows 10 pro ver 2004

CPU: i7-7700K

RAM: 32GB

VGA: nvidia GTX 1080

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled Photoshop CC ver 22. lot of lag and delay

@CGdesigner72 Could you update to the latest (22.1.1) and let me know if performance is any better?

You also mention above "Removing the tablet function from the window and using the tablet purely in Photoshop will solve the problem."  Can you clarify what you mean by that and what steps you took to do that (maybe provide a screenshot)?  Thanks!

@chad_rolfs I updated to version 22.1.1, but the results are the same.

and  wacom tablet .......

I solved the problem by referring to the following information.

Yes, the lag seems to mainly effect the sliders when using adjustments.

Great video @CGdesigner72 - illustrates the sluggish update of the canvas after moving a slider.  How big is that document (both file size and dimensions; Height/Width in pixels and resolution) and how many layers?  Thanks!

@chad_rolfs It is architectual 3D rendering  composion image.

Image size : 860Mb, dimension : 4967x3508 px,  include 123 layers and 24Groups.

I've always been working on this size file with Photoshop since 1998.

In the 2022 version of Photoshop CC, this problem has been so severe that it has not been used for work at all.

There's something else to keep in mind.

It's different when I use adjustment layer. You can see that the delay is reduced a lot

It's very ridiculous that Creative Professional users have to prove EVERY "Molecule" before Adobe decides to take action or even ACKNOWLEDGE fault of any kind.

Then Creative Professionals have to throw more "time" down the drain waiting for Adobe to actually fix what they broke.

This build is most definitely buggy.

Slow start up & random crashes. Can only roll back to v21 though.

Same problem for me. In my case the error happens as soon as I use layers that get transformed out of relation or distorted in perspective.

If I use such layers, I cannot save the file.

When I merge this layer with another one so I get a new pixel based layer saving is possible again.

@mischa_elbert , there was a separate issue that caused certain files to generate program errors, often on Save, which combining or hiding layers was a workaround. The January 2021 release of Photoshop (22.1.1) included a fix for that problem. I believe that is separate from the lagging issue; one user indicated tablet driver compatibility as a possible relation; anybody having issues that does NOT have a tablet? We are investigating.

Significant lag when using the hand to select area in curves.

Same result with Wacom and mouse.

Installed 22.2 on iMac

Works fine now.

Same problem here. Still present in PS 22.4

Hello,

I'm 35, have been using Photoshop since version 5.0 in 1998. Using the software on an everyday basis as a working tool for my company.

I had a computer with i7 2.60 Ghz •32GB Ram •Nvidia Quadro K2200M •Win7Pro64 and here is how Curved were handled in PS 2015.5.2

Now I have a computer with AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12 Core 3.70 Ghz • 64GB Ram•Nvidia RTX 3700•Win10Pro64 and here is how "Curves" are handled by (crappy) PS CC 2021 (22.3.1)

Needless to say that I know how to set the preferences in PS about usage of RAM, history, Open CL etc etc. Everything is well set.

Do you have some explanation or, even better, a solution Adobe ?? Every sliding-based tool is handling the same way. Of course my Win10 installation is all new and fresh and up-to-date with latest drivers.
