Photoshop 22.1: Temp Files Filling Scratch Disk FAST (possible memory leak?)

Hi,

My daughter (architect student) is using Creative Cloud Desktop Photoshop 22.1. She is using a HP ZBook 15 G6 Mobile Workstation with 32 GB of memory, SSD 512 GB. When she drags and drops a simple jpg file of 413 KB in Photoshop and save the file in Photoshop, it creates a file of 4.7 GB. When she is changes a small thing and trying to same the file again, she get's "scratch disks are full".

This is strange as she has almost 300GB free before opening Photoshop. Indeed this little operation fills up the disk with temp files of 64GB files. This is insane. It's unbelievable that I read this very same issue in previous versions of Photoshop.

My daughter has to finish stuff for her examens and can't use Photoshop.

I have found:

https://feedback.photoshop.com/conversations/photoshop/photoshop-2020-temp-files-filling-scratch-disk-fast-possible-memory-leak/5f5f46114b561a3d4271e4e4

Go into Preferences > Performance and check the [ ] Legacy Compositing setting, then Quit and restart Photoshop.

But the this is no longer visible in Photoshop 22.1.

We are looking for a solution before the deadline of my daughter's exam in a few days.

Thanks in advance,

Geert

Hmm. It sounds like something else is going on. Can you share the JPEG 413 KB and the resulting file you're creating? (via dropbox/CC files or similar file sharing platform)

One mistake I see with outrageous file sizes is cropping or resizing images with the wrong dimensions in mind. e.g. thinking you're cropping something to 600px by 800px but actually cropping to a dimension of 600in by 800in which creates a huge file)

Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks for the tip. She was dropping her little picture in a Photoshop 554x639cm@200ppcm file. I have tested with an A4 Photoshop file and then the  Photoshop temp file was just one file and not big.

Rgds,

Geert
