Photoshop: Ability to apply Layers Styles/Effects on layer groups

It would be fantastic to enable effects on grouped layers.

It's possible to apply styles/effects to groups in Photoshop CS6:

And the ability to selectively mask layer effects in the same way one can mask Smart Filters.

I like that idea but think it should be made into its own topic. :-)

Could you expand on that a bit? I thought you could mask layer effects by checking "Layer Mask Hides Effects".

What about applying one style to group (containing 100 layers for example) I really need this feature, I see it will be reliable :)

Idea: Allow designers to add layer styles to folders

Imagine if you could add any object to a folder, and it automatically has a shadow and a bluish tint.... That's possible with the addition of layer styles for folders. You double click a folder, and get the same layer style dialogue box that layers currently get. If you have a stroke applied to a particular folder - everything that is added to that folder gets a stroke. To change the stroke on every object in the folder, you simply change the stroke one time, in the folder.

You could add an option for folder styles to treat each object separately or as part of the whole. In other words, each object in the folder gets it's own stroke, or a stroke follows the border of the entire folder's contents. Same with drop shadow, etc...

Plus, when you combine the layer styles of the folder with the styles of the layers and nested folders, I think the possibilities could be unlimited for a talented designer.

I usually just convert the group to a smart object and then apply all the effects I want. I know it makes editing the group a bit more cumbersome, but it's ok for the frequency that I need something like that.

Excited to see this feature being implemented in CS6 Beta. It would be nice if one also could apply *filters* to layer groups...

Thanks for suggesting and voting. It makes my job lobbying for changes easier when I have good, constructive feedback I can bring back to the team for incentive.
