This feature was added in CS4 and refined in Photoshop CS5.To resize a cursor, press Alt + right-click (Windows) or Control + Option (Mac OS), and drag left or right. To change hardness, drag up or down. You get a preview, in red, of what the cursor size and hardness setting is:

Is there any way to adjust the shortcut so you don't have to click to activate this? Just hold down control + option and then scroll the mouse?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled mouse wheel scroll brush size.

I and others would like to be able to add the mouse wheel scroll to be active in the shortcuts,
so we can use it to change the size of the brush and shift+scroll to change hardness.
looking in users/appdata/roaming/adode...
the only shortcut I could find using the mouse wheel, was not in the shortcut keys list
alt+scroll to zoom into the canvas (i think this was more built into the program its self and not active in the shortcut bindings
