Photoshop only opens EPS files low-res

Latest update to Photoshop does not provide the dialog box to specify resolution and size when opening EPS files. EPS files only open low-res.

Hey all, there was an update released today which has a fix for the .eps issue.

I'm having the same issue. It's opening as a low res bitmap file. I even tried files that previously opened. I reverted back to v.22.4.2 and am able to open eps files without any issue.

Dumb question, but how do I revert back to the prior version before this update?

I am having the exact same issue with the PS update. I'm a vector illustrator so rasterizing my EPS files is part of my daily workflow. Extremely aggravated this update doesn't let me open EPS files, except horribly pixellated Index low res. I too reverted, I'm in 21.2.10 now and everything's back to normal.

To revert, I opened the Creative Cloud app (Mac), clicked on the drop-down menu next to the newest PS version and chose 'Uninstall'.

@Jennifer Borton you're a lifesaver, thank you! Back on the prior version and things are back to normal. I honestly thought I was going crazy with this problem until I researched and saw that everyone else was having the same issue. Hopefully, Adobe will release a fix soon.

Same problem here. Other than reverting my version of Photoshop, I take it there's no workaround?

I'm surprised Adobe hasn't addressed this yet.

As a workaround, some posts mentioned opening the file as a Generic eps. It didn't have any luck but it might work.

@BRIDGET_C

I just reverted back to the previous version of PhotoShop to fix the issue until they release a fix.

I just updated my Photoshop to 22.4.3

So I saved a file with channels as a PSD file. Normally I would save this file as a dcs file so I can drop it in Illustrator to output as individual colors. I saw a mistake and opened the dcs eps file back into photoshop and the file shows as a index file with no channels. The file is low res and not the size it should be. My file was 7 inches wide and now it is 1.5 inches wide.

I have tried to save it with different options but it does the same thing. The only good thing is that it still functions normally in Illustrator and I still have the 2020 version of photoshop. It works fine in the older version. The new update is the problem. I have a client that has 22.4.2 and they dont have this issue. It is only with the 22.4.3 version

Our staff has experienced this same problem with the v 22.4.3 update on both Mac and PC versions. When opening previously saved DCS.eps Multichannel mode files they open as a flattend Indexed Color mode file. Those of our staff using older PS versions were not having the issue.  I tried installing the previous version 22.4.2 and that resolved the problem.

I tested this resolution by updating to v 22.4.3 again and the problem returned. I then re-installed v 22.4.2 again and that resolved the problem again.

I have eps files of vectors smart objects. When I place them linked or embedded the file becomes super rasterized and adds dots and Xs into the design. Several coworkers on this version had the same problem. I reverted my photoshop back to version 22.4.2 and the problem no longer occurred. See attached image for the incorrect and correct for comparison.

I can't see this being an intentional change. If you are opening a file from within Photoshop, and it recognizes it as "Photoshop EPS" like it always did before, it will now only open the low-res preview attached to the EPS file. However if you select "Generic EPS", it will open the Rasterize dialog as you would expect.

The other way, is to drag your EPS directly onto the Photoshop application Icon, and it will open it correctly.

When I place a EPS file in Photoshop the transparency disappears and a white background is created behind the image/eps. When I open an old file, with the same EPS file it work, but when I place the same file or any other EPS file the transparency disappears.

Same here. This only happens with the 22.4.3 update. Works in previous versions of Photoshop.

Hi,

When I drop an .eps logo into my PS21 (V22.4.3) designs it arrives without transparency in a white box and is therefore useless.

Please fix – I've reverted back to v 20.0.10 in the meantime.

When opening a .eps file in Photoshop (22.4.3) the file opens as a tiny rasterized layer. There is no longer a popup window to set import settings.

Right now the only fix I can find is to install the previous version of Photoshop. Some have had luck selecting File > Open... And importing the file as a Generic EPS. I wasn't able to make that work.

Looks like this has been fixed in today's update.
