Photoshop: Renaming layers and actions

I constantly have to battle Photoshop to rename layers and actions. The problem is that when I double click the name in either the layers panel or the actions panel, Photoshop decides when I am done with typing and automatically closes the editing capability. Which ends up me hitting shortcuts into Photoshop creating unpredictable results.

The only way to combat this is if I choose "Action Options..." in the actions panel or copy paste the name from a text editor in case of the layer panel. Very annoying.

Is this only me or is there other people experiencing this and what is the cure?

Here's a short Video

(sorry, I'm not going to upload something like that to Vimeo or Youtube... And on that note, what's the deal with restricting tag words in the forum?!?!?!?)

Could you re-describe your scenario? It's not clear what it is you're trying to do.

Errrmmmm.... Ok...

- I have Photoshop open with an image

- I double click the name of the layer

- Photoshop stops letting me edit the name and any keystroke is going into Photoshop as a shortcut

The same goes for the action panel.

Have you watched the video?

Hi Alex, I haven't been able to reproduce this issue. Are you on macOS or Windows? Are you using a mouse or something like a Wacom tablet?

Hi Jeffrey, Thanks! I am on Windows 10 and one version behind on Photoshop (I don't update during a crucial production). I am using a Logitech Mouse and I have a tablet connected. An old Wacom Bamboo. I was suspecting this in the beginning. But touch is disabled on the tablet and the pen is off the tablet as well.

Trying to figure this out I noticed that it does not happen in the first minutes after opening Photoshop. I will try to track it further.

I am pretty sure it has something to do with my configuration and is not a regular Photoshop problem. Hoping to reach someone with a similar issue to find more lead way on this.

You could try unplugging the tablet and see if it still happens by process of elimination.

are you clicking on the type a third time when it closes or is that you type in a new name? It could be some weird alignment issue with the cursor or maybe Windows scaling is doing something strange?
I switched to win10 after decades of mac use and issues like what you're seeing plague the entire Ps GUI. It can be so frustrating to use compared to osx.

@earth_oliver Thanks for chiming in.

I double click and then start typing. Well, by now I double click and make sure the text line keeps focus before I start typing. The monitor the panels are on is 1920 x 1080 and my main is 2560 x 1440. I think scaling is not an issue.
