Render Lighting Effects not working Photoshop 22.4.0

Filter > Render > Lighting Effects not working in Photoshop 22.4.0

This is SUPER frustrating because I need for urgent work.

I'm running windows 10 with 2080 T.I.

Updated all the drivers, clean install photoshop, still can't get it to work.

I can't select or move any of the light around. Resetting it to default doesn't work at all.

Same here. Tested it on macOS 10.15.7.

Even changing the light presets doesn't do anything.

So frustrating. I really don't know which version of Photoshop 2021 I should use, because in every dot release there is one bug fixed, one bug added. It's even hard to keep track ...

I'm uninstalled and did a fresh install of photoshop 22.0 and it works perfectly fine, which means my hardware and drivers weren't an issue, it's just a bug in photoshop. Hope it gets fixed cuz I totally agree, every update fixes some things but breaks others and when you enable auto updates it gets super annoying during crunch time..

I have the same problem with the lighning effects.

And the situation is even worse: A lot of the 3D-functions are really broken.

For example 3D->New Mesh from layer does not work.

(Working with: PS 22.4.0 on WIndows 10)

Thank you, I got it to work in 22.0 too which means its a bug specific to the photoshop update..

yes, 3D is in a really bad place right now and it's not looking good.

I just found this post, related to 3D: https://feedback.photoshop.com/conversations/photoshop/3d-broken-in-photoshop-2021/609dfcd4e077c600a4629ccc

The fix there solved the problem (maybe it created some new ones???) - the lightning effect filter is now eorking again on my machine.

Lighting Effects handles do not appear. Tried everything and only the settings appear on the right side and no handles. See image below.

  • View -> Show All does not work
  • View -> Show extras does not work
  • Updated my video card driver
  • Restarted the computer
  • Restarted photoshop
  • Reset my preferences
  • Double checked that performance is using GPU

My Specs:

  • Photoshop 22.4.1
  • Windows Version 10.0.19042 Build 19042
  • RTX 3080 (Driver 466.47)
  • PC RAM 64 GB
  • Processor AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
  • Monitor ROG PG27U @3830 x 2160

Some functionality in Photoshop, such as 3D and lighting effects which uses the 3D engine, still relies on the older Open GL graphics functions. To make these work, an additional preference Preferences>Technology previews>Deactivate Native Canvas has been added. This can be checked and Photoshop restarted to restore 3D functions and lighting effects to where they were in 22.3

Lighting Effects doesn't work at all. Opens to a black box, no handles to grab... nothing.

I'm updated to the latest PS, new mac with latest OS, graphics is a AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT 16 GB

FYI...the turn on "decativate native canvas" hack doesn't work (I just get Lighting Effects greyed out) but apparently that works for PC only

Same problem.  This used to be fixable by enabling legacy compositing, but that options is no longer available.  Please fix ASAP!

Hello, I have tried this on both my new 2021 Mac Laptop and my older 3013 Mac Pro as well as had coworkers try it on their machines.

To recreate this: Open any image or a new file with a dark image or color fill  (so you can see the lighting effects). Then go to Filter>Render>Lighting Effects. You will most likely on a Mac not be able to see any 3D controls to move the lights around and or see any changes of the slider made till you hit confirm. I reset my preferences and set my View>Show>All both did not work in the last version as well as the newest update of Photoshop on many different Macs.

What is wrong with this filter?  It adds spot lights etc., however you cannot scale or rotate lighting?  I can make any other global change such as color, texture, ambient and save.  Just can't change direction or scale.  What is the fix for this?

The filter Lighting Effects is not working on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015 running MacOS Big Sur 11.4). I have a AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2 GB installed. The filter is just showing completely dark with no handle bars. When I try adding some settings I get a distorted image every time. I am not able to edit any of the settings for the lighting.

I have already tried various solutions but nothing seems to work:
• Tried checking the Preferences > Technology previews > Deactivate Native Canvas and restarting PS, but that didn't work.
• Tried resetting all my Photoshop preferences and restarting, didn't work.

• Tried going to View > show all, but handlebars are still not showing.

Hello and thank you for this post. I am experiencing issues with Filter > Render > Lighting Effects. I have tried turning on the preference "Deactivate Native Canvas" and the menu command, Lighting Effects... is greyed out in 8-bit mode. It seems to me, deactivating native canvas stops lighting effects from working. When this preference is unchecked, Lighting Effects corrupts the preview.

Same problem here.  Clicking on lighting presets doesn't change anything. And there are no sliders at all.

Lighting effects is broken on my end as well as 3D extrusion.  Has worked in the past so I believe it is a version-specific bug.

version-specific.

Adobe confirmed the issue with 22.4.x forward.  Told me to roll back if I needed the effect while they try to resolve the issue.

So for the last couple of months, whenever I tried to use a Lighting Effects, it wouldnt work, it would bring up the panel, but none of the lights were selectable, and applying the render did nothing.

Now on a brand new fresh PC with a fresh installation of the latest version of Photoshop it simply crashes PS (of decent specs 5900x, 32GB DDR4, RTX 3090).

Photoshop has become such a hoggy slow bloated mess even on a new PC its ridiculous, please sort this out.
