Photoshop/Photoshop Elements: How to use Filters? (Preview is all one color)

Why are my photos black when using the sketch filter in Elements 10? If i choose "photocopy" for example the photo is black - moving sliders has no effect. This is the same for most of the sketch filters. Other filters seem ok. Tried uninstalling and re-installing. Any ideas ???

Photoshop: Add Foreground/Background to option bar for brushes

Put the foreground/background swatches somewhere like on the option bar for all tools that would use it. The only reason many of us have for even keeping the tool panel visible is to keep an eye on the foreground/background. I say since it really isn't a tool, move it, but I know that is bad form. S
